MacDonald told The Oran Monday that everyone in the community was thrilled with news of the award. Whycocomagh Co-op store manager Jason Rouse, who is from the Whycocomagh community, says there are more than 50 stores represented in the Maritimes so this was a big achievement for the store and the staff and he credited the community for its support, without which he said, the store could not be the success it is.

Rouse worked in the early 's at the Whycocomagh Co-op as an assistant manager before moving on to work with Sobeys for some years before moving back to Whycocomagh again in to manage the co-op. The Whycocomagh Co-op currently employs some 19 people, an example of the number of people employed by small locally-owned and operated businesses. Rouse and MacDonald say there have been a number of improvements and renovations and expansions to the store in recent years and they expect that will continue in the months and years to come.
